Collie Club of America Breeders Ed. Committee Proudly presents:

“Meeting of the Minds”

The 21st century has a brought a whole new “vision” to the art and science of breeding dogs. This seminar will focus on a look back in the history of breeding Collies and its relationship to the current methods that successful breeders employ to help achieve the desired results. We will explore the various paths that breeders took to achieve consistency and homozygosity in the breeding programs. Delving into the selection of foundation stock, the use of a pedigree, the critical analysis of puppy selection for the next generation, the great journey into creating a “great one” and the daily routines of kennel maintenance, training and conditioning, we are hoping for an outcome that will be both enlightening and stimulating.

Rather than call this a “panel discussion” – we choose to view this as a “Meeting of the Minds.” Our speakers are diverse in their efforts, diverse in their choices, and diverse in the methods they have used to achieve success. Join us to share the thoughts and perspectives of:

canine good citizen testing

Wednesday, March 24: We will be offering a chance for you to get your Collie another title. AKC Canine Good Citizen testing will go on all day Wednesday. The fee is $10. You will receive a certificate from the CCA noting your Collies accomplishment. All Collies are eligible. Scheduling for the day will take place at the show. Please contact the chair with the number of dogs you plan on testing. Bring your registration information for the test.

Thursday, March 25: The Annual Collie Health Foundation Dinner and Auction will take place in the show building. There will be a pasta buffet followed by the usual lively CHF Auction to raise funds for research to help our Collie’s health issues. Cocktails begin at 6:30 p.m. Buffet at 7:00 p.m. immediately followed by the auction.

The Sheraton Suites Hotel (website) is located 100 yards from the building that the 2010 CCA will be held. The accommodations are top notch and all rooms are 2 room suites that will sleep 4 very comfortably and 6 easily. Dogs are allowed in the rooms in crates with a pet deposit. Judges ed seminar

Friday, March 26, 45 minutes after the conclusion of the days judging, the Juniors will meet at the conformation ring for a mentoring session and handling clinic.

Please keep the size in mind when reserving your spaces.  All people desiring to be together must be mailed in the same envelope.  NO ACCEPTIONS.  Each space will include one gallon of water.  Additional water will be available for purchase.  Shavings will be available for purchase only.  We will sell them at the prevailing rate.  Plastic must be under all ex-pens and up the side of the pen 10”.  Plastic will be available at the show.

The National Specialty is a place to show off your latest promising pups, or that dog you held onto through all of his or her stages and that now is exactly what you had hoped for.  It also is a place for breeders to meet once a year to talk about current issues, be they health, dog laws, breeding problems or anything to do with this sport we all love so much. 

For that reason, we are planning to conclude judging on Thursday and Friday by a reasonable time – around 4pm.  We will then have visiting hours in the grooming area.  This will be the chance for everyone to see the dogs that they have seen on ColliesOnLine or the magazines, up close and in person.  It will be a chance to compare notes with other breeders and catch up.  We will have snacks and beverages to tide you over until the evening events.  We hope you all will participate in this process and spend some time seeing old friends and meeting new ones.

hollywood walk of fame

Celebrate your special Collie, friend, daughter, husband or anyone, by purchasing a Star on our Hollywood Walk of Fame in their honor. You can designate your Star to any Collie or Person. Each Star is a 12” x 12” replica of the Hollywood Walk of Fame Stars. The Stars will be displayed around the ring during the National and can be taken home at its conclusion. Don’t miss sharing your chance to honor that special one person or dog.

Each Star will display the name of the person or dog just like the real Hollywood Walk of Fame Stars. We would like you to write a short few lines (50 words or less) to go in a brochure that will be ringside for all. They will be free and in a few short lines you can tell everyone the reason for honoring this particular person or dog.

The Stars are $10.00 each or 3 for $25.00. Please submit your order by February 12, 2010 to:
